Curiosity and wonder can help you improve your habit plan

#100HABITSIN100DAYS | DAY 26

Sunday, 15 January 2023

It’s day 26 of my #100habitsin100days challenge, sharing with you the habits I struggle with and how I’m improving their design, new habit recipes, how I’m doing along the way (including with my crazy sleep experiment), and an actionable takeaway you can use to improve your own habit plan.

Habit updates:

  • Updated the routine for my ballet progress report habit to make it more insightful and align it better with the things I’m focusing on right now: I’ve removed front and side split pictures from the progress report, as I’m not actively working on those right now. I’ve added my ballet action tracker to the progress report, so I can see how well I did on all my ballet habits. I’ve also added my plank and wall squat time.
  • Changed the frequency and trigger of my habit plan check-in habit: I’ve decided to do this habit daily instead of weekly. Now that I have more habits to update, this seems like a better fit. I will do this as part of writing my daily challenge update.
  • Updated the routine for my progress stats whiteboard habit: I’ve changed some of the stats I’ll track. I’ve removed/ updated some because they were hard to measure and added others that seemed to reflect my most important progress better.

New habit recipe(s) for today:

I told my ballet coach Isabella about this challenge, and asked her if she had some ideas for additional ballet habits. She came up with a list of 10 (one of them was yesterdays ‘glute stretch while brushing teeth habits), some I’ve edited them a bit to make them better fit my existing routines:

Yesterday’s stats:

I completed 16/16 of my daily habits, resulting in a 100% success rate.

For my dance habit, I did my alternative journal excitement routine, because of a mild fever.

You can find an overview of all stats here.

Tiny update on my sleep experiment:

On the 6th of January I started experimenting with polyphasic sleep (getting up at 4 A.M. and taking 2 naps during the day). Yesterday, I didn’t sleep that well during the night, but I had a good morning nap, and still felt pretty good during the day. Only, at the end of the afternoon I started to feel less well, but this was due to a mild fever, not fatigue. I’m pretty amazed at how well I’m doing on so little sleep so far.

Actionable takeaway:

If resistence comes up when it’s time to do your habit, try to look at it with curiosity. “Mmm, I wonder why I feel this way, let’s explore what I could do to make this habit more meaningful, easier, or enjoyable.”

If you have any questions, ask them on the live Thursday at 16.30 CET in the Mighty Habits Facebook group.

Update 26/100 complete 🎉. Thanks for reading!
