On falling in love with the process & why I’m tweaking my daily updates

#100HABITSIN100DAYS | DAY 24

Friday, 13 January 2023

Yesterday, I read this quote from the 3-2-1 Newsletter of James Clear (emphasis mine):

“The responsibility of any creator is to do the work, not judge it.

Your job is to fall in love with the process, not grade the outcome.”
– James Clear

My new’s year resolution for 2023 is to enjoy the process of creating and launching Mighty Habits helping me ultimately to become playfully unstoppable.

Reading this quote served as a reminder to think about the things I’ve been doing lately that I have struggled to enjoy.

One of the things is writing these daily blog updates.

On one hand, because writing is just not something that comes easily to me (especially the less structured parts) and I find it less fun than something like programming, researching, or designing.

On the other hand, because I’ve been working on creating content plus marketing materials for a membership program that I want to launch mid February, and it has made me feel like I shouldn’t spend 60 to 90 minutes each day on only part of my ‘nurturing strategy’.

The other thing that happened yesterday, was that I didn’t get to my habit design check-in.

Now that I have more habits, the habit design check-in becomes more work, and also I struggled a bit with adjusting to my new sleep schedule.

Which lead me to think that maybe I could break down the habit design check-in into daily chunks and extract an actionable takeaway from it each day, and then using this as input for my daily challenge update.

It might make writing my daily challenge post a bit easier (and therefore more fun) and faster without sacrificing to much on the ‘providing value’ part.

So this is something I will experiment with the upcoming days.

Here is my new habit recipe for today:

Live and learn

Some people see changing your plans as a weakness or failure.

They think if you start something, you need to finish it.

Why?

You’ve created that plan for a reason, but along the way might have found a better way to reach your ultimate goal.

Why continue reading a book, if after a few chapters you still don’t like it or find it valuable?

Why contine studying something, if you no longer enjoy it and don’t need the diploma anyway?

Why continue a career, if you’d rather start a different one?

Of course, there can be costs associated with switching plans.

And nearly every plan has less enjoyable phases that you just have to push through.

But there’s no reason to keep up with something just because you already put in (a lot of) energy.

Finding a plan that allows you to reach your goals in a way that makes you enjoy the process a lot more will make it easier to live a happy and fulfilling life.

If you have any questions, ask them on the live Thursday at 16.30 CET in the Mighty Habits Facebook group.
