Send weekly newsletter that includes challenge update
HABIT #3
Details & Clarification
I want to send a weekly newsletter to my Mighty Habits subscribers that includes an update on my #100habitsin100days challenge. I will include a link to a recording of my live with training that I’ve posted on Youtube.
Starting point & Lessons from the past
Two weeks ago I started sending out newsletters again, before that I didn’t send anything for months. I’ve never consistently send out a weekly newsletter before, let alone one with a running theme. What I can learn from my previous attempts is that I shouldn’t wait for X before sending out the newsletter. Where X can be anything that I would like to include, but isn’t ready on the day that I planned to send out my newsletter.
Why this habit is important to me:
- It will help me nurture, provide value, and connect with the Mighty Habits tribe, especially those that are not in the Facebook group. Again, this is key to building a value-driven business, because it will build trust and hopefully some ‘likeability’ 😅. It will also filter out the people that don’t like my style or aren’t that interested. Which is useful because I can’t help everyone anyway, and it gives me the opportunity to focus on those that resonate with me.
- It will help me follow through on this challenge. As my email list consists of more people than my Facebook group, so it increases the pressure a bit to keep this challenge going. Which in turn will help me build some amazing habits and hopefully create an ‘inspiring business asset’.
- It will help me develop the skill of content promotion. I’m the worst storyteller, ‘cause I always go straight ‘til the end and tell the clue of the story, instead of building some anticipation and taking the time to show why it’s useful to hear about it in the first place. So this will be a great opportunity to sharpen my content promotion skills, as I won’t be able to just pour all the content into a single email.
Identities I want to build with this habit:
- Value-driven entrepreneur
- Habit designer
Trigger:
- I have set up a weekly recurring task in Akiflow (a time-blocking platform I use to plan my days).
Tracking:
- I will track my habit in Akiflow, checking it off as I’ve scheduled or sent the newsletter.
Habit boosters (things that will help me follow through):
- Public accountability: The newsletter is another way to leverage public accountability, as everyone on my list can check whether I send a newsletter or not.
- Pre-commitment: At the end of my welcome sequence I announce that I will send them a weekly newsletter.
- Coaching accountability: Again, another strategy suggested by my ‘entrepreneurial’ coach, so I know I’ll have some explaining to do if I don’t follow through.
Obstacle battleplans (how I’ll deal with potential obstacles):
- Delay to include something: I’ve known from my previous experiences, that I tend to want to delay sending a newsletter when I’m almost finished with something. But in the end this usually results in me skipping to send the newsletter altogether. So, I will not let an almost-finished thing prevent me from sending the newsletter on the planned day.
- Getting discouraged by unsubscribes: The bigger your list gets, the more people unsubscribe when you send out an email. Of course this is perfectly normal and nothing to be upset about, yet it can feel like you’re bothering people and no one wants to hear from you. Not sending anything is safe, but of course then you’re not helping anyone either, plus what’s the point of building an email list if you’re never gonna send them anything. I will try to keep those things in mind as well as focusing on the things I can control: analyzing what’s working, experimenting with different formats, trying my best etc. Rather than the things outside my control: how many people open an email, how many click, how many unsubscribe, etc.
