Post a challenge update in the Mighty Habit FB group every day
HABIT #1
Details & Clarification
I want to post an update on my challenge inside the Mighty Habits Facebook group. This update should provide some habit-building inspiration or insight, the habit recipes of my new habit(s) and/ or habit healthcare of my existing challenge habits, as well as an actionable takeaway.
I have further simplified my daily challenge updates, see challenge update day 32. These updates have not been getting much engagement, so I want to experiment with different types of content to see if I can create a better way to connect with my audience.
Starting point & Lessons from the past
I’m starting from scratch with this habit. Though I have posted some content before in the Facebook group, these posts were kind of random. One thing I can learn from that is the “done is better than perfect” attitude is really helpful for this type of habit. As each post could be endlessly optimized, I need to find a good balance between speed and quality.
Why this habit is important to me:
- It will make me more likely to pull this challenge off. Which will help me establish myself as a habit design authority. It will also allow me to build all kinds of habits that I desire. It will allow me to clearly document my journey, making it easier to learn from and ultimately teach others.
- It will provide me with a way to nurture and connect with my audience of fellow habit nerds. This is the cornerstone of building a value-driven business. I want to get to know my audience so I will be better able to serve them. Plus, I want to monetize my expertise, and I firmly believe in giving value upfront before asking to ‘trust me’.
- It will help me develop the skill of content creation. I love the ideas of “Practice what you preach”, “Show, don’t tell.” and “Set a challenging, desirable goal for yourself and document your journey of achieving it”. Being able to create valuable content that other people connect with, seems like such a versatile skill that I could benefit from for the rest of my life.
Identities I want to build with this habit:
- Value-driven entrepreneur
- Habit designer
Trigger:
- I will do this every evening after dinner (or if I go for a walk after dinner, after the walk), except for the “yesterday’s stats part”, I will still do that in the morning. I have set up two daily recurring tasks in Akiflow (a time-blocking platform I use to plan my days) to remind me.
Tracking:
- I will track my habit in Akiflow.
Habit boosters (things that will help me follow through):
- Public accountability: I will be posting in a (semi) public group, and have it part of this public challenge, so I have all of you to keep me accountable.
- Pre-commitment: I’ve announced daily updates in advance in the (pinned) intro post of this challenge.
- Coaching accountability: A focus on a coherent nurturing content strategy was suggested by my ‘entrepreneurial’ coach, which adds another layer of accountability.
Obstacle battleplans (how I’ll deal with potential obstacles):
- Perfectionism: Having a template for text + visual will help me eliminate some perfectionism. The daily deadline will also provide useful, as I have to post something. I will keep in mind I’m doing this for the first time, and even doing it imperfectly will teach me more lessons and be more valuable to the MH tribe, than not doing it because I’m paralyzed by perfectionism.
- Being short on time: The templates will also help me save time, another habit I want to add is to plan the topic and habits in advance, so I don’t have to spend time on this when writing the update. I will (at least in the beginning) highlight this as one of my 3 most important tasks. Giving it priority during my work day above most other tasks. I will also try to create the content at least one day in advance, so I have a bit of buffer if things go sideways during the day.
Habit update 14th of January 2023
I’ve decided to test a new format for my daily challenge update, see challenge update day 25. I hope this format will make it easier, faster, and more fun to write these daily updates, while still providing value.
Habit update 20th of January 2023
I’ve updated my trigger: I will do this every morning at around 5 AM after I’m done with my ballet choreography practice.
Habit update 21th of January 2023
I’ve updated my routine: I have further simplified my daily challenge updates, see challenge update day 32. These updates have not been getting much engagement, so I want to experiment with different types of content to see if I can create a better way to connect with my audience. In order to make time for that I have to further simplify my challenge updates, as I also need time to prepare the launch of my Mighty Habits membership.
And I’ve updated my trigger (again): I will do this every evening after dinner (or if I go for a walk after dinner, after the walk), except for the “yesterday’s stats part”, I will still do that in the morning. My concentration is best in the morning, and now that the routine has been simplified, it makes more sense to use my mornings for more difficult work.
