Visualize daily ballet routine & ballet goals
HABIT #50
Starting Sunday, 14 January 2023 | Day 25
Details & Clarification
I want to visualize my daily ballet routine and goals (being able to dance on pointe, being able to do pirouettes, being able to dance a choreography like this one).
Starting point & Lessons from the past
I’ve only done this for a while when waking up before getting out of bed. I’m not super good at visualizing stuff, so I struggled a bit with it. I also got distracted sometimes. I also felt it wasn’t working so well because I didn’t feel more motivated after the visualization, so I know it’s important to get clear on why it’s useful even if you don’t experience an immediate increase in motivation.
Why this habit is important to me:
- From Psychology Today: “Brain studies now reveal that thoughts produce the same mental instructions as actions. Mental imagery impacts many cognitive processes in the brain: motor control, attention, perception, planning, and memory. So the brain is getting trained for actual performance during visualization. It’s been found that mental practices can enhance motivation, increase confidence and self-efficacy, improve motor performance, prime your brain for success, and increase states of flow.“
Identities I want to build with this habit:
- Contemporary ballerina
- Determined
Trigger:
- I will do this when laying down to go to sleep (and maybe also when laying down for a nap), I’ve added a post-it next to my bed to remind me.
Tracking:
- I will track this habit in my Akiflow app.
Habit boosters (things that will help me follow through):
- Public accountability: Having it part of this public challenge will boost my motivation to follow through.
- Coaching accountability: This habit was suggested by my ballet coach after I told her about this challenge and asked her for habit ideas. I will track my progress in my monthly report and share it with her for additional accountability.
Obstacle battleplans (how I’ll deal with potential obstacles):
- Forgetting: I’ve added a post-it note next to my bed to help me remember.
- Feeling it doesn’t work: I’ve known from past experiences that I felt a bit hesistant whether it was working, but now that I’ve done some extra research on it, I’m quite confident it will help. If I still feel it doesn’t work, I will do more research and try to improve my visualization skills.
